Family Fun

My mother has told me stories of summers spent at Lake of the Ozarks with her extended family, eating ice cream in the cool of the evening, and playing bingo with both the kids and grown ups. I found this Classic Bingo Set the other day. It is a giant step above the very basic (and very cheap and flimsy) set I own, and while it costs a pretty penny, I am adding it to my "wish list."

It's summer and I want my kids to have happy memories of lazy summer nights and bingo games, too. My simple set will suffice for now, but once a tradition is made, upgrading is required, and the wood construction of this set appeals to me, along with the classic metal ball basket. I imagine the kids would have a "ball" taking turns rotating the handle and choosing the number to call. I have to consider it an educational investment, at least for the youngest ones who are still learning their numbers. The older ones can work on perfecting their organizational skills and their helpfulness by watching over the little kids while we play, so I guess everyone can learn something!

I can just hear the crickets now, as I imagine us all sitting on the deck with cool glasses of sweet tea wearing two layers of bug spray. We can start up a fire in the fire pit and roast marshmallows after the game. The winner gets the Extra Dark chocolate bar for his S'mores...It's going to be fun!

If you don't want to go the expensive route just yet, try out this less expensive bingo set which still retains the old-fashioned flavor of the pricier set (you will just have to put up with more plastic parts).
