Where have all the "Good Old Games" gone?

In a world where I look around the doctor's waiting room and see three children ages 4-14 mesmerized by handheld devices (iPods, PSPs, iphones), or walk through a lobby where there are a half dozen adults congregating in chairs and nearly every one of them is riveted to the screen of their Blackberry, and where when kids ask if they can play a game of ball, they mean they want to get out the Madden on the Wii, sometimes I find myself wishing I could just go back to the good old days.

You know, back to those days before widespread television use, when old time radio shows were all the rage, most kids only had a few cherished toys, and evenings were spent together in the living room, reading out loud, playing checkers, or listening to The Shadow or Fibber McGee and Molly. Times before all the disjointedness of technology, which instead of bringing us closer together as promised, often pushes us farther apart.

It is in the spirit of that longing for something simpler, sweeter, more real and less artificial, more creative, relational, educational that I offer this collection of games and products that will support your own desire to find those "good old days" for your family, and bring them into the here and now.

I hope you enjoy browsing through the pages. Feel free to comment on my write-ups of the products. Share your own experiences with them so that others may be encouraged. Any suggestions of good products in the spirit of old-fashioned (non-electronic) fun will be appreciated and investigated.

If you feel inclined, please order something and give a gift to a friend, your family, or yourself. I'd appreciate if you decide to purchase anything based on what you find here that you would use my links, as they are affiliate links and any proceeds from your purchases will help support my work here. I would never suggest a product that I did not truly believe to be a quality one, just for the sake of a potential sale, so rest assured I have done my best to find quality products at affordable prices.

Blessings,

Heather
